SOUTH ISLAND SECONDARY SCHOOLS’ JUNIOR NETBALL TOURNAMENT
In the first week of the July school holidays Papanui High School entered a team in the South Island Schools’ Junior Netball Tournament which was held here in Christchurch from the 8th-11th July. This team was formed just before the tournament playing in the Combined Grade (Year 9/10 Boys/Girls). They grew from strength to strength each game and played some great netball. The team finished the tournament in 15th place out of 32 teams entered.
A big thank you to Rebecca Edmonds who did an amazing job coaching the team and developing their skills along with Debbie Gillett who managed the team and was their “go to person” throughout the tournament.
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS
Congratulations to:
Shaylah Sayers who competed in the South Island Secondary Schools’ Road Cycling Championships on the 6th/7th July. Shaylah won the gold medal in the U17 Girls Road Race and also took home a bronze medal in the Individual Time Trial.
Josh Rae who won the 2024 Lowen Cup People’s Choice Award at the recent 2024 ParaFed Canterbury Incredible Awards. This award is voted on by team members, parents and supporters for the person they felt best demonstrated what the ParaFed games are all about. Josh has now won all five of the Individual Incredible Awards since he joined the team in 2018.
Lucy Pratley who represented Canterbury at the U16 Basketball Nationals in Auckland from the 16th-19th July. Lucy played in the Canterbury Black team who came away with a 12th placing overall.
