A Decade of Dazzling Lip-Syncs

Robert Gilbert —

The Papanui High School hall was buzzing with excitement as it played host to a beloved tradition: the 10th annual Lip-sync Competition.

For three glorious days, the auditorium transformed into a concert venue, filled with cheering students and incredible performances. This year's event was truly a spectacle of hilarity, drama, and pure entertainment.

The competition, now a decade strong, kicked off with three days of heats, where students showcased their creativity and stage presence. The air was electric, with screaming crowds supporting their friends and classmates. A huge shout-out to our incredible MC, Anuki Muhandiram Gedara, who kept the energy high and the audience laughing with her brilliant commentary.

Today's final was the crescendo of all the excitement, featuring standout performances that will be talked about for years to come. Highlights included a dynamic number from the Head Student Team and an outrageous routine from the Staff, which proved they have just as much rhythm as the students.

After some incredibly difficult decisions, the judges crowned this year's champions: HUNTR/X! Their performance captivated the crowd and earned them the top spot in this milestone year for the competition.

A massive thank you goes to our dedicated judges, Ella Grocott (Year 13), Annie McMiken (Grad school student teacher), and Jeremy Adams (Loop PYDT), who had the challenging task of picking the winners: Their expertise and keen eye for talent were invaluable.

The annual Lip-sync Competition is more than just a contest; it’s a celebration of school spirit, creativity, and the joy of performance. We can't wait to see what next year's event brings!
