Ronald McDonald House
Cook night and presentation of annual $10,000 donation.
On Tuesday the 18th of June, seven students from the Service Council from Years 11 to 13, along with Mr Kirby went to Ronald McDonald House to cook for the families living there as part of Ronald McDonald’s Cook Nights. As well as cooking for the families we also presented $10,000 to Ronald McDonald House as our annual donation.
Papanui High School are very proud to sponsor the teenager room at Ronald McDonald House which is a special place for older children living there to have their own space to relax and rewind. To raise the $10,000 for this year, the school fundraised in a number of ways including non-uniform days, Junior Workday, and Extravaganza Day.
We are so proud of what we were able to do for Ronald McDonald House because it is such an amazing place, and an organisation that we were lucky enough to be able to see in operation first hand. While we were cooking, we got to talk to some of the families living there and see just how grateful they were for a home cooked meal of burgers and salad. It was such a special experience to be able to see the difference we made by such a small gesture like cooking them dinner. There were young kids having fun running around and both parents and kids came up to us after dinner to thank us for the dinner and our donation.
The relationship Papanui High School has with Ronald McDonald House is a special one and one we hope to uphold in the future. We love being able to be a small part of what they do there.
