Attendance Matters
In 2024, Papanui High School saw a significant improvement in student attendance, and we want to thank our students, parents, and whānau for their dedication to this achievement.
Attendance plays a crucial role in educational success, and we are committed to continuing this positive trend in 2025.
Why Attendance Matters:
There’s a clear connection between attending school regularly and academic success. Missing just one day of school every two weeks may not seem like much, but it adds up to more than a full year of missed learning by the age of 16. Regular school attendance builds strong learning habits, which lead to better educational outcomes and brighter futures.
Our Commitment:
At Papanui High School, we are fostering a culture where attendance is valued every day. This includes:
Building strong relationships between staff, students, and whānau.
Recognising and valuing each student and their whānau.
Providing a safe and welcoming school environment.
Supporting families in overcoming barriers to attendance.
How You Can Support:
Attendance is a shared responsibility, and we need your continued support. If your child will be absent, please inform us as soon as possible.
Acceptable reasons for absences include tangi (funerals) or medical procedures. However, family holidays and extracurricular activities not organised by the school are not valid reasons for being absent.
We are also here to help—please contact us if you are facing challenges in getting your child to school. Let’s work together to support your learner.
