Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award

A group of Kimi Ora students spent the night on Quail Island as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.

We loved sleeping in the hut, cooking nachos for dinner, listening to the birds and star gazing at night.

A great adventure for us all!

Food Studies in Kimi Ora

Food studies is an important life skill that the students work hard on in the Kimi Ora Department. This term the menu has included Frittata, Chicken Stir Fry, Pizza and Sunken Subs. Part of the experience is shopping to get the correct ingredients which students do at the local supermarket.

Each recipe is cooked three times and on the final cook students are assessed for hygiene, organisational setup, preparation of the ingredients such as chopping meat and vegetables, cooking and finally cleaning up afterwards.

We have some great cooks in the department who can take those skills out into their homes and the workforce.
