Year 10 Wānanga: School Values in Action
This term, our Year 10 students have brought our school values to life through the Wānanga curriculum.
Wānanga is a unique subject at our school, designed specifically to meet the needs of our Year 9 and 10 students without being confined to traditional subject areas.
As part of their learning, students explored the ripple effect—how small acts of kindness can accumulate to create a meaningful impact. Throughout this process, they developed key skills in creative thinking, project management, teamwork, and financial management.
Students began by pitching project ideas to their classmates, who then voted on the most promising concepts. From there, they worked collaboratively to turn their ideas into reality.
Some of the great student initiatives included:
10MRR organised a bake sale, raising $142 for the Schools Relay for Life fundraising efforts for the Cancer Society.
10Wdj raised $336 (and counting) for the Child Cancer Foundation by selling Cadbury fundraising chocolates.
10Alh have been helping Denis McMurtrie at the Papanui Bush, next door to the school. They have moved dirt for planting, made bird feeders, painted stones, and tidied the path. They have been invested in taking care of this precious community resource.
10Dwj collected cans for Kairos. Kairos collect and give food donations to food banks around Ōtautahi. They collected 292 cans!
