ROTARY OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE 30 September - 4 October 2024, Boyle River Outdoor Education Centre.
The Boyle River Outdoor Education Centre, along with the northern South Island Rotary Clubs, offered a 5 day developmental programme for emerging young leaders, at the centre in the Lewis Pass.
This programme is unique as it is offered to Year 10 and Year 11 students who are proving themselves to be potential leaders. The course helps to support and cultivate their leadership skills and is aimed towards fostering confidence in their ability for future leadership roles.
Students Elaine Su (Year 10) and Nukumovaha’i Limuloa (Year 11) were identified as students here that met the brief and were given the opportunity to attend the programme in the last school holidays.
Elaine quotes: “At camp we were involved in a lot of activities, day and overnight tramping, high ropes, abseiling, and rock climbing. The best part was sitting by the campfire in the evening during the overnight tramp where we would reflect on our day. I haven’t just learned about being a leader, but also being in a team and how to unite. Overall, I have personally experienced the importance of communication. This was a great experience and it will be the highlight of my high school life.”
A big thank you goes out to the Rotary Club of Bishopdale Burnside as they sponsored both students to be a part of this exciting opportunity free of charge.
