Papanui High School Vocal Evening

On Monday, Ella Grocott and Elisabeth Cox hosted a brilliant evening of solo, small group and chorus pieces. Voice students from all levels and styles showcased their talents among staff, fellow students and whānau in what was an entertaining evening enjoyed by all.

Jazz Combo

Late in Term 2, the Jazz Combo—comprising Otis Lane, Minori Naoi, Leon Harman, Cadence Zhou, and Kieran Watson—competed in the Ara Institute Jazz Quest 2024. Amid strong competition, they earned a Gold award with a program featuring jazz classics and one of their own compositions.

Big Band

Big Band No. 1 has been selected as one of the final 10 bands, out of approximately 60 from around New Zealand, in the Young Jazz Band-it Essential NZ Jazz Competition. They will travel to Wellington in Week 10 to perform two NZ jazz pieces and two of their own choice among the best secondary school big bands in the country.

Canterbury Singing Competitions

Ella Grocott and Elisabeth Cox competed in the Christchurch Competitions Society Vocal competitions in various sections, achieving impressive results:

Jonathan Lemalu Masterclass

Elisabeth Cox recently performed in a masterclass with renowned NZ Opera star Jonathan Lemalu ONZM, where she received valuable advice from the Grammy award-winning singer.
