Me he manu au e kakapa nei I am all a flutter like a bird

In Week 2 the excitement began with students attending one of 5 Tira assemblies; Pīwakawaka, Kōtare, Kererū, Weka and Makomako. All named to represent Ngā Manu, the birds that frequented Papanui Bush, the site our school currently sits on.

In the assembly students joined in a game to build Tira spirit and learn about their Tira. Students practised chants, and found out about the events that they can get involved in this term.

It was inspiring to see over 250 put their names forward to be considered for leadership positions. We need all types of leaders to support our students, create drive and enthusiasm and organise/run events. Students will be asked to either hand write, email, or talk in person to the staff leader about why they wish to be a leader and what their strengths are. This only needs to be short, a half page maximum.

Our first big event is on Friday 17th May. All students will be out of class on the field all day for Tira day. Students will rotate with their Tira enjoying a wide range of activities. A lot of thought has been put into offering students a wide range of choice at events. At the end of the day those that wish to represent their Tira will compete in a huge Spiral Relay, with the results contributing points to Tira based on position, as well as the numbers competing in each Tira.

I hope to see students dressed up in their colours to represent their Tira with Pride.
