GETTING READY FOR A RETURN TO SCHOOL UNDER LEVEL 2

Paul Kingston —

We don't know when this will happen, whether or not Level 2 will be the same or 'tweaked' but next week would be a good time to start thinking about returning to school.

We noticed the children here for Level 3 were excited and happy to be back. We also found that by the third day they were very tired as school doesn’t have the same opportunities for quiet time (and no bedroom to go and lie in) - this is something we will plan for (the quiet times not the bedroom).

You can help at home to make the return to school successful. If you start next week by doing one or two little things over the week the eventual return won’t be such a shock.

  • Start to re-establish morning routines - getting up at a set time, breakfast, dressing, hair, teeth etc. by a set time.

  • Check that bedtimes are more like the pre-Lockdown days

  • Check the uniform, bag and lunchbox are ready to go

  • Reinforce the personal hygiene protocols that are required at school - coughing, sneezing, tissue use, hand sanitiser and washing hands (when and how)

  • Closer to the start day, maybe have one day where you leave home in the morning as if you’re going to school (on time)

  • Start talking about road safety (Traffic will increase. As cyclists and pedestrians we’ve been spoilt with very quiet roads).
