Principal's message

Paul Kingston —

This will be the last newsletter for the term. And what a term it has been.

Covid Response Plan changes for Term 2

Given the change in circumstances, we have been reviewing our Covid Response Plan and updating our risk assessment. We have been told to expect a 'long tail' with Covid cases but we feel confident in making some changes to how we will operate in Term 2.  These aren't 'set in concrete' but let's be optimistic!

We are hoping for a change to an Orange setting but if we are still in Red we have adjustments planned that will see school, while still following Public Health Guidelines (PHG), returning to more 'business as usual'.

If your child tests positive or is a household contact  over the term break/holidays we still need you to notify the school.  This information is a vital part of our risk assessment and planning.  Any notifications should be emailed to covid@pps.school.nz

We will update you with a newsletter at the end of term break before school starts as to what these will be.

Cross Country

We didn't think it was a great idea to run our cross country this term when so many children were away and so many others recovering from a respiratory illness.  So we have rescheduled to early next term. There will be a Fun Run/Walk component alongside the usual competitive races so everyone can participate at some level.

Dancing

Our Dances in Schools  was put on hold but now has been rescheduled to Weeks 3 & 4 in Term 2.  There is an amended programme and procedures that align with the PHG. There is no cost for this programme.

Visiting Performers

The popular NZ Playhouse has been booked for next term. This is always a fun and entertaining show. There is a $5 charge, attendance is optional and parents can choose to opt their child out by letting their teacher know and they will be supervised in the library.

Basketball

We have two teams in the Year 5 & 6 basketball at the Bishopdale YMCA in Term 2 and 3.

THANK YOU

I am wary about getting too carried away by the data that shows Covid cases at the school peaking and then thinking (hoping) that it's over.  There will be more disruption and challenge ahead for the school and families, but if we can continue to support each other, communicate and be brave we will get through this together.

A sincere thanks to the staff, our loyal relievers and all the parents and families for their support and co-operation.  And thank you to the children for bringing the energy and buzz to school everyday.

Have a safe and happy break.
