On your child/ren's reports you received today is their 2022 attendance as a percentage. The target for attendance in a normal year would be 90% +.

What those percentages mean for learning time lost;

• 90% attendance equates to 3 weeks off per 40 week school year
• 80% attendance equates to 7 weeks off per 40 week school year
• 70% attendance equates to 11 weeks off per 40 week school year

Our average attendance rates prior to this year have been consistently in the mid 90%s.   In 2022 the average attendance at Papanui Primary is 86%.  

The drop can be largely explained by

• Covid outbreak in the school - and increased sickness
• Staying at home when you're unwell and returning when symptom free being fully supported by parents

The last few 'Pandemic' years have put pressure on attendance rates across the country and there is now a national focus on improved attendance at school and engagement in learning.

While the majority of our children attend regularly next year we'll be looking to get our attendance rates back to pre-Pandemic levels and look forward to your support.
