International Day
On Thursday 11th April we are celebrating our International Day at school. We encourage the children to wear clothes that show their culture – it may be traditional clothes, clothes that are the colours of their flag, or something to show where their family comes from. We are also having a shared lunch in our classrooms.
The children in our school identify with around 25 different cultures. We have been learning about each others' culture this term and our International Day is a chance to celebrate this diversity.
We would love to include our community in this event. If you are keen to either come in to cook at school with the tamariki in the morning or maybe come and do craft activities from your culture, Henna art, dance, Māori games/weaving etc, please get in touch with your child's teacher.
Whānau are invited to join us from 1.30pm for a “Shared” lunch in our classrooms where we will share food from our family’s different cultures. We ask the children to bring something to share for lunch that day that either represents their culture or is just a family favourite.
After lunch we will have a Traditional Costume Parade. The children can wear clothes that celebrate their culture – it may be traditional clothes, clothes that are the colours of their flag, something to show this is where my family comes from. The whole school will meet together on the court if possible (or in the hall if wet) to see the children parade in their costumes and celebrate all being a part of New Zealand.
