Principal's message

Paul Kingston —

Apart from getting two of my granddaughters drenched by an incoming wave at Sumner I had a great Matariki weekend with my whānau. I hope you all did too!

Next term I am away on Principal's Sabbatical Leave, which involves study and refreshment that is funded by the Ministry of Education.

Our Associate Principals, Jo Morris and Debbie Robertson, will each have five weeks as the Acting Principal. Their class teaching roles will be covered by Mrs Akhtar in Pīwakawaka for the first five weeks and Mrs Mundy in Kāhu for the second five weeks.

Alongside me, Jo and Debbie make up our Leadership Team.  They are both instrumental in the smooth running of school - including managing our Covid Response, Curriculum planning and Assessment, and the wellbeing of children and staff.  The school will be in very good hands while I am away.

Covid update

It's been two weeks since the last Covid update. In the past two weeks there have been a total of 8 children as positive cases in Pūkeko, Pīwakawaka, Korimako, and Weka.  We have also had 2 staff members away with Covid.

Update from the Ministry of Education

New Zealand will remain at Orange, but enhanced measures for schools and a change in reinfection advice will help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Key Points
  • 50 child-size masks made available to every Year 4 to 7 student in New Zealand.
  • 20,000 to 30,000 masks provided a week to all other students and school staff.
  • Extra funding to schools and early childhood services to support better ventilation over the winter months.
  • Free flu vaccine made available to all children aged 3 to 12 years old.
More information can be found on the Government COVID-19 website and the Household Contacts information has been updated and reflects the COVID-19 reinfection advice from 90 to 29 days

Sickness (not Covid)

We have been experiencing absences due to colds and flu as well as a tummy bug.

Masks and very good personal hygiene are effective tools in reducing Covid and other illnesses so we will continue to strongly encourage masks in Term 3 for our Year 4-6 children and staff, as well as visitors to the school.

Year 6 Parent/Caregiver Tour of Casebrook Intermediate

Wednesday 6 July - 9am - 10am: The Casebrook leadership team would like to offer any parents & caregivers the opportunity to hear about life at Intermediate School, see how our transition to Casebrook works and take a tour of our learning spaces and facilities. We will be starting just after 9am and expect to be finished at 10am.
We look forward to meeting with you, Nick Leith Casebrook Deputy Principal

Kia kaha te menemene - keep smiling

Paul
