Cross country and Fun Run

Maree Hewitt —

Tuesday had the perfect weather for our much anticipated cross country and fun run event!

Our year 5 & 6 tamariki started their 2km cross country run at a very fast pace and kept the pace up for the entire race. After 3 laps of the school our first race was done. Tamariki chose to run in the cross country with the goal of a possible selection for our Zones cross country next week at Murchison Park.

The second race of the day our year 3 & 4 tamariki ran approximately 1.2km with some great runners keeping up a fast pace.

The third race of the day our year 1 & 2 tamariki ran one lap of the school with awesome enthusiasm and eke panuku (personal best)

After a short fruit break we started our fun run. The fun run had some tricky parts to the run with some slalom moves between the trees. A few extra additions to our bike track 'up & overs' and then onto the grass. The soccer goals, with a tarp over the top, became an awesome tent to run under before heading around the to the hula hoop challenge along the front of the playground. We added in the hill from the grass side this year with a few positive comments supporting the decision. It was amazing to see so many adults joining in the run and crossing the finish line with huge smiles!

A huge thank you to the PALs team (Physical Activity Leaders) and their design of our courses this year. They also spent considerable time measuring distances, sorting out gear and making sure everything was out for the day.

Some of the comments from tamariki was the best part of their day was having parents and whānau come to watch and support them. The staff and would also like to thank the many parents, grandparents, and whānau for coming along and supporting our event.
