On Monday 22nd February the Junior School had a visit from Maria, the butterfly lady. Maria is the founder or The Butterfly Musketeers which is all about raising the awareness and protecting the Monarch butterfly.
She told the children all about the life cycle of the monarch butterfly and some of the things we can do to help build up our Monarch population. There was a lot of hands-on time to try on the wings and masks too! The song that goes with this slideshow is called Pūrerehua which means butterfly in Te Reo. Maria finished off by giving us swan plants for our classrooms to eventually put in our butterfly garden. The children have loved watching the Monarch caterpillars changing n the classroom - thank you Maria. You can check her website here if you want more information about the Monarch butterfly.
