Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Robyn Bradley —

Pareawa Banks Avenue School has digital technology that ākonga | students can use but we also support BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) for Year 4-6.

On this page you will find out all the information you need to know if you choose for your child to bring a device to school.  Please note - BYOD is not compulsory.

Keeping Safe - Using HEART Online

We endeavour to do our best to keep children safe online. There are a number of ways in which we do this. First and foremost we use our school HEART values to educate the children in making good choices when learning online. We also have Linewize and N4L infrastructure in place which allows us to filter and view online activity. We follow Netsafe New Zealand's recommended best practice and encourage you to look at their Parent Portal.

What To Buy

You have two options. You can either purchase a Chromebook with a Quad core or Octa core processor (not dualcore) or a Macbook Air. At school we generally use the ACER or Lenovo brand of Chromebook as they are hardy and have a battery that lasts through the day if charged overnight. These devices are available at many providers, such as; Harvey Norman, Noel Leeming, PB Electronics, and Warehouse Stationery.  Shop around and look for sales leading up to the new school year, alternatively, mention that the purchase is for a school BYOD programme and you may get a 'school price'. As a Hero school, we also get a discount at Noel Leeming. Look for the Hero logo on your Hero app to see the Shop, Scan, Save! barcode.

Children with a BYOD device also need a set of headphones and a protective sleeve/travel case.
