Welcome Back to School!

Simon Thomas —

A very warm welcome to all of our awesome students and whanau for 2019...

The start of the school year is always really exciting.  We hope you all had a fantastic time with your whanau and enjoyed the summer holidays. We welcome our new staff, Mr McDonald (Mr M, Deputy Principal), Janine Chapman (Office), Nicole Gloag (Kereru) to our awesome team too!

Our Parkview Pārua teaching team is really excited about the learning ahead of us this year and to work with our amazing students.  This year we are working to provide varied and challenging learning programmes for our students via our Learn , Create, Share pedagogy.  This year our Inquiry theme is "Change" and we will be working to ensure our students have a broader exposure to the Arts via inquiry.

Over the holidays there were a number of works to our drainage and grounds to prepare for the building programme.  At this moment the Ministry is evaluating the tenders for the project, which looks to be starting in April/May this year.  This $5 million project will build a new 9 classroom block and learning hub along the rear fence line, and remove a number of old classrooms and buildings.

It is a significant project which we desperately need.  Our roll for the start of the year is in excess of 400 students, the largest ever,  we are desperately short of space.  We will be working hard to minimise the disruption to learning this year.  For example we have moved all teaching spaces as far away from the building site as possible, however as the roll grows will may have no choice but to use some of those spaces. We will need your support this year to keep our students and teachers in good spirits.  It will be noisy and disruptive without a doubt, however it will be worth it.

Over the course of the year we will be working  with our students and whanau on a new uniform, which will be phased in over a number of years.  Our red and black colours will stay however we want to improve the quality of the uniform items and reduce the range to simplify things for our families.

This term will be busy with Swimming Sports, Yr 5 & 6 camps, each team visiting Rehua Marae and Meet the Teaching Team evenings in Week 3.  We look forward to all the exciting learning outcomes this year has for us and for your amazing continued support.  🤣
