Football Winter Tournament

Janine Chapman —

Congratulations to Parkview Power for winning the 3rd place in the Canterbury’s Football Tournament.

The kids were very excited and nervous about playing in the Canterbury’s at English Park. We were in an extremely tough group (Blue) which consisted of 8 teams – with 1st place in each group (Blue & Green) making the final and 2nd place in the group (Blue & Green) playing off in a final for 3rd and 4th place.

We got off to a flying start winning our first 4 games.  Going into our 7th and final group game we were tied for 2nd in the group with two other teams, so needed to win big!  We went into our final game to attack as 2nd place in the group may have come down to goal difference.  The team showed the skill and determination to win 9 v 0 to reach 2nd place in our group and the opportunity to play in the final for 3rd place.

RESULTS - Game 1: Won against St Joseph 6 v 3.  Game 2: Won against Heathcote Valley 4 v 1.  Game 3: Won against Ashgrove 3 v 1.  Game 4: Won against Broadfield 4 v 1.  Game 5: Lost against Thorrington 2 v 1.  Game 6: Lost against St Albans 3 v 1.  Game 7: Won against Greendale 9 v 0.

OUR FINAL was played between Parkview and Somerfield and was probably our performance of the tournament to win 4 v 1.  We got off to a great start with Samuel winning the ball for Somefields kick off and going on to score a goal in the first 3 seconds of the game.

We can be extremely proud of our team who played some very good quality teams and matched if not outplayed the opposition.  The kids enjoyed what was an awesome day and great achievement for the school achieving the 3rd ranked team out of the 150 or so school teams that entered the tournaments as a whole.

Memorable tournament moments:

  • PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT, Dylan was fantastic every minute he was on the field, reading the play really well and being the ROCK at the back with great interceptions and last ditch slide tackles as well as being extremely brave putting his body on the line.
  • Elizabeth making numerous intercepts, being in great positions to receive the ball and always looking to find her team mates with a pass PLUS some GREAT TACKLING!.
  • Jamie always plays well and was equal top scorer today with the highlight being a great headed goal from an Isaac throw in.  Jamie played multiple positions today very well and was a star wherever he played!
  • Samuel saved his best game for the final and was instrumental at centre midfield, scoring a goal in the first 3 seconds and taking control of the game. Also equal top scorer with 3 memorable goals from halfway.
  • Isaac was very strong today with his all-round game but very impressive tracking back to help defend. Each of Isaac's goals were probably the most important goals of the tournament in each of the games that he scored.
  • Charlie was also relied on to play in multiple positions over the tournament with his best performance being when he played a full game at fullback and the main reason for the POWER keeping our only clean sheet of the tournament.
  • It was great to have Adam back in the team after being away.  Adam added a lot of class and skill which really enhanced our play today.  Adam at times cut the opposition to shreds and also scored a number of defining goals.

WELL DONE TEAM!
