Kapa Haka

Alexander Negus —

Every Tuesday in the school hall, Matua Rehari, Mrs Lindley and Manaaki together run Kapa Haka for all of the teams

Kapa Haka is designed to help can learn our culture and our ancestors way of the world. All of our kids really enjoy doing this, and it’s been boosting their confidence. Matua Rehari has created a great bond with the kids and is an excellent teacher. Teams 1-4 have the privilege to practise their Te Reo. There is a large bunch of kids who choose to participate in this outstanding activity. The afternoon practise is Team 1 (junior), Team 2 (middle classes), Team 3&4 (senior and upper classes).

Matua Rihari does an amazing job at teaching them Te Reo. The junior school get taught very simple Te Reo, and the middle get taught semi complicated Te Reo.  The upper and senior school get taught poi and more complicated things. The classes are very interesting to watch,  the students are so enthusiastic. It’s amazing to see how talented the kids are. There are so many beautiful singers in our school.

The Kapa Haka are all super naturals,  the best thing to see from them would be a parent's performance. That will most likely happen at the end of the year. The Kapa Haka for the Teams 3&4, starts by having some fun by singing some songs while they wait for all the other people. Then they get into the Kapa Haka stuff, a.k.a the poi and Te Reo songs.
