Talofa Lava From The Kererū Pārua

Liam Brolan —

The Kererū team jam-packed a lot of new learning in this short week. We wanted to celebrate Samoan language week through creative outlets such as story telling and traditional art. We were very impressed with the creativity and enthusiasm displayed by our students.

We switched things up this week for writing and challenged our students to publish their own book about Samoa. Not only do these designs look incredible, but they are filled to the brim with quality information about the culture, language and geography of Samoa. The classes are collecting quite the catalogue of their published works!

On Monday we delved into the legend of Sina and the Tuna. The kids draw a storyboard of the main events of the tale and learnt the story behind the birth of the first coconut tree. A memorable moment was when the eel had it's head decapitated!

For art we wrapped up our painting unit with artwork inspired by Georges Seurat. The different textures and blending of colours made for a dazzling result. The art has certainty brightened up our classroom displays.

The team has gone mad for Multiplication this week! The multitude of different digital platforms we have been using has helped consolidate those all important timetables. A couple of favourites being 99Math and Legends Of Learning. Keep practicing those timetables Kererū!

Pat yourself on the back for a great week team, and have a safe and enjoyable long weekend.
