Power Up East - Pasifika Community.

Pip Warwick —

Power Up East is a 26 week programme designed to help raise achievement for Pasifika Students. This programme is in its 4th year.


· The programme runs from 5pm to 7pm, every Monday during Term 2 and Term 3.

· Venue: Linwood College School Assembly Hall. Aldwins Road.

A brief outline of what happens at the Power Up programme:
5pm to 5.20pm Opening Karakia and Kai

5.20pm to 6.35pm : Learning Stations for ECE, Primary and Secondary. (Lead teachers have lessons prepared and can also assist with homework). Parents also have  workshops. Topics can range from Financial Literacy to Reading in Homes.

6.35pm to 6.45pm: Better Living / Health, Exercise and Nutrition with Suli Tuitaupe. Suli is a Nurse who is currently studying towards his Masters in Health Science. 

6.45pm to 6.55pm: Local Hero/Guest Speaker.

6.55pm to 7.00pm: Final notices and closing Karakia.


Students who attend, come from approximately 12 schools. From Linwood North to St James, Haeta to Villa Maria, Burnside to Te Waka Unua. These are students who live in the area.
