Kōtuku and Kererū Term Review

Kerri McManus —

Wow, it’s hard to believe that another term is coming to an end, with only one more term until the end of another year!

This past term has been very eventful for the Senior end of the school with both teams undertaking changes to give students more input into their learning. We have been finding ways to be creative with what and how we are all learning. It has been a huge process, both for students and teachers, as we anticipate the completion of our new 2020 learning spaces.

As well as the usual trips for sports teams, our tamariki have been able to experience team trips to Flip Out or Alpine Ice, as well as more hands-on learning experiences for maths and literacy. Both teams have put more emphasis on utilising the time first thing in the morning to check in with students in home rooms, so that relationships can be built upon. Here are what some of our Senior students think of the learning that has taken place this term:

Ethan Rm 9: I feel like the more practical hands on stuff makes it more fun to learn and we get more done. Some of my favourite things that we have done so far are the 80's dress up day and the science experiment that we have done.

Chloe B Rm 8: I think that it is more  interesting now that we have changed our timetable and we can self-manage and work more independently. I have enjoyed the 80's work that we have done and I like comparing things from then to now.

Paige Rm 9a: I like that we have moved subjects around and we have time first thing in the morning where we learn to work together and play card games.

Orin Rm 10: I like how we have maths in the morning, reading in the middle block and writing in the afternoon. I like doing buddy stuff with Rm 16, 7 and 2.

McKenzie Rm 10: I like going out for more PE and doing more hands on stuff like building. I enjoy the clubs that we have on at lunchtimes.

Thank you to our Kererū and Kōtuku tamariki for embracing learning this term. We look forward to seeing you all back for an exciting Term 4!
