Road Patrol

Wendy Exton —

Introducing the Terrific Tuesday Team!

We are very fortunate to have a dedicated and reliable team of Road Patrollers operating before and after school each day keeping our Tamariki safe crossing our two busy roads.

The team take their responsibilty very seriously and have collaborated and supported each other during our crazy unpredictable first term covering absences without hesitation.

It is my absolute pleasure co-ordinating this amazing group of students that have grown in confidence since their initial training with Constable Geoff at the end of 2021.

Question: Why did you sign up for road patrol?

Asha - "I love doing Road Patrol because it influences our Tamariki to want to do it when they become part of Kererū or Kotuku. When I started road patrol I was really shy, and didn't like to speak loud, but Wendy taught me to be able to speak louder, and I’m really proud of that. Also I have gained a strong relationship with the following people of my team: Avarni, Violet, Alexia and Kaea.”

Violet - “The best thing about road patrol is not the drinks! It's about keeping people safe and that is more important. I like road patrol because I get to protect the people that cross the road on Chadbury Street and Queenspark Drive.”

Kaea - “The reason why I joined road patrol is because I wanted to do as many leadership roles as possible and for something new."

Avarni - “A lot of people do road patrol because you get a drink at the end but the reason why I joined road patrol is because I really wanted a responsibility this year and I wanted to help people walk safely across the road. Road patrol is a very important thing to me and I really look forward to it every week. I like how all the patrollers build a good friendship just by doing road patrol together. I have learnt a lot from road patrol like teamwork, being more confident, and being more aware of my surroundings."

Alexia - “I do road patrol to help the community cross our roads safely. I've always wanted to do road patrol since about year two. I learnt all the lines and said it in my head while waiting for the line…"cross now."

Elena - “I love doing road patrol because I want to help children and adults cross the road safely. If we didn't do road patrol people could get hit by a car and get hurt.”

To our entire road patrol team and our fantastic parent supervisors thank you for your mahi keeping us all safe!
