When my friend asked if all the pieces were in the chess set I had sold him....

I told him to check, mate.

With the mornings becoming colder, more and more students enjoy staying inside before the bell rings. Room 17 has quite a number of chess players and they enjoy a few games before core learning begins. Chess Club is also proving to be popular with the wider Year 5/6 Kererū team.

Listening to them talk strategy, maintain focus and attempting to out maneuver one another is really cool to watch. A number of beginner or non chess players have begun observing the strategy, rules and gaining an understanding of the terms involved.

Other students prefer to play card games or make card towers. All of these activities have the same positive outcome of connecting with peers, working together and a calm start to the day.

Ka mau te wehi! Awesome! Fantastic!
