Kapa Haka At Parkview

Janine Chapman —

Kapa Haka is underway for the year and we are grateful to have Matua Rihari back with us for another year. This year we are utilising the facilities over at the Parklands Community Centre.

Our Piwakawaka's go first for a half hour session. They have been learning a new waiata 'E rere taku poi'. Girls have had the chance to have a go with a poi and boys have been learning some discipline normally associated with Kapa Haka.

Pukeko have their own half hour session and they blow me away every week, in particular with their version of Hareruia.

The Pukeko team have been learning a new waiata 'Pa mai' and are also practicing the Haka Powhiri that many of them learnt last year.

Our Senior Kapa Haka group have a mixture of new and returning tamariki. It's great to see the support they give each other and welcome them to our rōpū.

Because of the size of this group we are pleased to have Mrs H also come and help us each Tuesday afternoon. They have begun learning a waiata for their cultural performance that will be put together as the terms go on. Girls have had the chance to provide input into creating this item, deciding on the poi they would like to do and some of the actions. I look forward to seeing this come together next term.
