Kids for Kids Choir at the Horncastle Arena

Janine Chapman —

The Year 3/4 Choir have been practicing all year for the 'Kids for Kids' Choir Performance at the Horncastle Arena.

25 of us traveled there on Tuesday for our rehearsal. We didn't need the radio on the bus because we kept the driver entertained with our singing! We were the first school group there and we got to sit in the front rows. Jacqui Clark and Nathan King helped us to warm up our voices. We practiced all the songs we were going to sing that night. We even added actions. The audience was in for a surprise that night.

Ayla and Leesha tried out for a soloist position in the show. We were so proud of how brave they were to give this a go. They missed out this time but they got to sit right behind the main performing area and were invited onto the stage to sing and dance along to the last song. They even got to sing into Jackie's microphone! All of the choir had to meet Mrs Newton and Mrs Luhetoa at the Arena at 6:45. We donated cans to the Salvation Army Food Bank as we walked in.

The show started at 7:30. We sang lots of Kiwi classics like 'Why love do this me?' by The Exponents, 'Green Light' by Lorde and 'Whaling' by Dave Dobbyn. One of our favourites was 'Light Surrounding You' by Evermore and all of the audience got out their phones and shone their flashlights from side to side. There were a few surprises on the night like students dressed up as sharks during the song 'Shark Attack' and a competition for who could do the best tongue twister (P.S. the Choir won!). There were even proper judges scoring everyone's performance. A few of us even got to meet the stars of the Show and take a photo with them. It was one of the best nights we ever had!
