Samoan Language Week in the Pukeko Pārua

sophie.dethier . —

This week we are celebrating Samoan culture through art, Sasa, food and music.....

The Pukeko team was lucky to have Stacey Lene visit our classrooms for Samoan Language week. With the help of the gorgeous Esta and Lizzy she introduced some everyday Samoan greetings with a follow up game. In true Samoan fashion the lesson ended with the sharing of delicious, mouth watering Pani Popo (Samoan Coconut buns). This was a wonderful experience for our children and gave Esta and Lizzy a real feeling of pride and belonging.

Manuia fa'afetai Stacey, Esta and Lizzy.

We have also learnt a sasa, a song and created Siapo art.

"It was fun being a teacher. I was proud of myself." Lizzie

" I helped my mum make the buns. I really liked teaching all 4 classes Samoan language." Esta

"I liked learning the Sasa and the Samoan song" Archer

"The music was really good to dance to" Kyrie
