Searching the Shoreline in Piwakawaka
The Piwakawaka Pārua have been searching the beach things that belong there and things that don't....
The council-led program "Searching the Shoreline" was a hit with our junior school. Each class took the bus to New Brighton Beach, where we met a facilitator who taught us about what we might find by the sea.
Groups set off on their treasure hunt. We found sand dollars, shells, and even a fish! Unfortunately, we also came across a lot of litter. The tamariki needed to distinguish between what was natural and unnatural, and we discussed how to reduce the amount of unnatural things we found.
Each class had a wonderful time. Room 2 and Room 4 were especially resilient as they experienced some crazy weather on their trip.
A special thank you to the whanau who helped out; we can't do these trips without parent help and appreciate you giving up your time.
