Christchurch Floods
This week the Kererū Media Team chose to write about the Christchurch Floods.
In Christchurch there was intense rain. It has been the worst rain in ten years. The streets were flooded with water for days. People were welcome to keep their kids home from school because of the flooding. There were 40+ roads closed in the south island. The school basketball game has been cancelled this week because the roof of Cowles Stadium was leaking and it flooded the whole floor.
Jessica has said “It's been raining a lot so the wind has been pushing it to the backdoor and wetting the mat. So we moved the mat and put in a towel but it got soaked so we got a new dry towel and put it by the mat. Then moved it to the crack of the door.”
Bella S has said “There was lots of rain on the road so there was water on the windows. I felt like the rain was going to drip from my bedroom and I felt unsafe because it was windy and I heard the rain dripping on the roof. My backyard was kind of flooded and so was my treehouse.”
Let’s hope no more red alerts soon or any more places flooded as we recover from this horrible period of time.
