Great learning and fun in the Piwakawaka Team
It has been a busy week for Room 8 and the Piwakawaka Team.
Firstly I would like to thank Stacey Lene. We were very fortunate that Stacey took time out of her busy schedule to help share some of her Samoan cultural knowledge with the class as part of Samoan Language week. The class had an awesome time learning to count in Samoan and basic Samoan phrases and instructions. The most appreciated part would have to been the yummy Samoan food. A big thanks from the class Stacey.
Stacey and Rosa got up early to cook this delicious dessert. Rosa told the class "it was real fun cooking with Mum and I helped do lots of the cooking"
The Piwakawaka Team have been studying Matariki. Each class is taking a different approach to learning about this event and the classes will change teachers to get new perspectives. Room 8 have been doing a science experiment to better understand why stars twinkle. We have also been making star collages. All great fun and learning.

Outside skills are a high priority in the Piwakawaka Team. During this session we were learning the basic skills required to play hockey.
Amber said "this is fun and I am really good at hockey"
Room 8 is a play based learning room. We believe in using play as an awesome construct to teach social and emotional skills.
