Arts Festival Art by Room’s 4,5 & 6

Janine Chapman —

Last term Bret de Thier (a graphic designer ) took an art lesson on logos with Room’s 4,5 and 6. Bret’s original 1972 Christchurch Arts Festival logo is being relaunched for the 2019 Christchurch Arts Festival.

Bret has designed a 2019 poster to promote the event.  He wanted the children’s fresh perspectives and interpretations of the logo to be a main part of the poster.  The children all created an artwork that showed the logo in a new way.

The Arts Festival organisers were really impressed with the children’s work so they arranged for an exhibition of everyone’s work at Turanga Library.  Yesterday we went in to view the exhibition, and to have a presentation of the finished poster.  The children were really proud to see their work on display and valued.

Not only was the art exhibited in the city library, but the Arts Festival decided to project all of the art onto Rhydges Hotel every night this week. It was so amazing seeing the children’s work on such a grand scale!

A big thank you to the Arts Festival committee and to Bret de Thier for making this happen. It has been a very powerful learning experience for our children.
