Year 8 Shirley Boys Visit

Jack Smith —

Kia Ora School Whanau! 😁 Last Friday our Year 8's boys got the chance to go to Shirley Boys High School for the day, to experience what a day as a Shirley Boy could be like.

When we Arrived at Shirley, we walked into the main hall with all the other schools.  We then watched the Senior Boys perform a Haka which was quite impressive, then the Principal came out and made a speech.

Afterwards we were split up into schools, which were then sorted into houses, Parkview was placed in Snell.

Then we went to science where we mixed acids and bases and made a rainbow of Chemicals (nobody was harmed😆)!   Then, we had the Turd Experiment.... Which Smelled Disgusting!  but it was very cool, even though it smelt Horrid!

After interval we went to Art/Woodwork/Metals, were we did, well those things! At art we pieced together a picture of the Mona Lisa, we were shown stuff about Adobe Photoshop and took a look at some weird and bizarre designs. While at woodwork, they did something way different.  "At woodwork we made a crank up spinner which, if cranked up thirty times created static electricity" said Lucas, who I interviewed for this information. Finally at metalwork they made Marshmallow Shooters, which were made out of a metal tube, hose and a wood Grip.

Next stop, English!  Each school in Snell was split up,  students from Parkview were mixed up with the other schools in Snell that day.

At the end of the day all the schools met up in the hall and in true Shirley fashion, sung the Shirley Boys Anthem to the Teachers, before leaving.

Shirley Boys was a fun experience which came with highs and lows, but us Year 8's know, that our choice of high school, is now an important one.
