Tsunami Siren Testing & Day Light Savings

Janine Chapman —

Christchurch’s tsunami sirens, which are located along the coast from Brooklands to Taylors Mistake, will be tested this Sunday at 11am (7th of April) as part of a biannual testing exercise to coincide with daylight saving.

The sirens will sound for approximately three minutes, and are designed to be heard within a few blocks of the coast.

If you live near the coast, it is a timely reminder to check whether you are in a tsunami evacuation zone and that you know what to do.

If you are in a tsunami evacuation zone, it is important that you discuss a plan with your family, and understand the “Long or Strong, Get Gone” message.
