New garden beds thanks to Bunnings and the Kererū Kaitiaki Team

Connie Palmer —

The incredible Bunnings team came to our kura to help us build new garden beds.

On Thursday 27th of April, three super stars from Bunnings came to our kura to help the Kererū Kaitiaki team build two new garden beds outside of the Kererū space. With such a large amount of students wanting to be a part of the Team, we were finding the two original garden beds too small for everyone to have a chance to be involved in growing vegetables. So we applied to Bunnings for some help and they were happy to come to the party!

On the day, small groups of the Kererū Kaitiaki group helped the Bunnings team dig holes for the garden beds, screw the garden beds together and lift the garden beds into place. They have turned out perfect and we are so thankful to the Bunnings team for gifting us such incredible garden beds. While we were waiting to help with the new garden beds, we weeded our old ones to give our vegetable seedlings a better chance of growing.

Bunnings has also agreed to help our kura out in the future with some fruit trees for along the back wall behind the Kōtuku space, some native grasses for along the scooter track and to build a bed to plant flowers in along the wall behind Kererū.

You are welcome to come and have a look next time you are at school and if you are at Bunnings Shirley, say a big thank you to their awesome team!
