Time to Trade!
This term, Kererū have been learning about the traditional Māori economy, where communities traded goods and services instead of using money.
We explored how Māori relied on what the land could provide for these trades such as food, plants and materials.
To put their learning into practice, we had a Trading Day. Each student created or bought an item which they could offer to trade to others. There were a variety of ?? Students practiced negotiating and making fair trades, just as Māori would have done in the past.
The activity gave students a chance to think about cooperation, communication, and how trade works without money. They also gained a better understanding of how Māori traded sustainably, valuing resources and relationships.
