Māori and Pasifika Community Engagement Strategy
Parkview Pārua School Māori and Pasifika Community Engagement aims to foster meaningful and culturally sensitive engagement with the Māori and Pasifika communities. We recognise the importance of acknowledging and valuing the rich cultural diversity, knowledge, and contributions of these communities. By promoting active participation, inclusivity, and collaboration, we seek to strengthen relationships and improve outcomes for students and communities.
Why Community Engagement is Vital:
Engaging with Māori and Pasifika communities demonstrates respect for unique histories, languages, traditions and worldviews
Engagement helps identify and address areas of importance and cultural significance
Community engagement empowers individuals and communities to actively contribute to decisions that affect them
Engagement encourages cross-cultural understanding and the development of cultural competency among staff, students and the wider community
What Happens During Community Engagement:
Enhance understanding of Māori and Pasifika cultures, values and protocols.
Bridge communication gaps and ensures cultural sensitivity
Involve Māori and Pasifika representatives in decision-making processes that affect their tamariki and communities
Termly consultations, hui (meetings), and fono (gatherings) to gather input, feedback, and suggestions from community members
Engagement strategies are tailored to each community's unique needs, preferences, and aspirations
