Board Of Trustees Election

Sandy McCully —

Shortly you will receive voting papers to select our Board of Trustees for the next three years.

Their role is governance over the activities that go on within the school.  On Wednesday night the current Board of Trustees met together as with the elections it was time to sadly farewell Emma Butler, who is standing down after 6 years of service.  Emma has been involved in all of our appointment processes over the many years and we will miss her insight at our Board meetings. Thank you Emma for all of your work and support.

Four of our current Board members are standing again for re-election :

Tony Herring - Board Chair - Tony has led and co-ordinated our Board for 18 years.  His leadership and experience are invaluable and his insight as a Senior Partner in a law firm is irreplaceable.   Tony advises and leads meetings and passionately advocates for our school with the Ministry of Education and supports the Principal when issues arise.

Troy Wheeler - Has led our property redevelopment programme and his experience in engineering and project management have been vital to the planning to date.

James Morrison - Has responsibility for our policies and personnel systems.  James has played a key role in appointing the best staff possible to our school over the last 3 years.

Mike Darnell - Finance, property and management.   As an engineer Mike's experience has assisted us in the planning for and implementing the building upgrade.

Our current Board have been fantastic.  Tony, James, Troy and Mike are passionate about seeing the rebuild programme through to completion as it has taken 3 years of hard work to get to this point.  Some of the key changes our Board have implemented over the last 3 years are:

  • Establishing flexible learning spaces
  • Purchasing 200 Chromebooks so every student from Year 5 - 8 has their own learning device
  • Establishing our Enrollment Zone and managing a growing roll
  • Maintaining small classroom sizes
  • Running prudent budgets and effectively managing our finances
  • Appointments of key staff - Board Members sit on appointment panels
  • Establishing the design of the new building and upgrade of our school - liaising with the architects and Ministry of Education
  • Building a new playground
  • Redeveloping policies and procedures
  • Maintaining and improving teacher welfare
  • Developing our new school logo and name process

These are just some of the highlights.  There are so many achievements that could be shared. The role of a Board Member is fundamental to the success of our students, teachers and community. Please take the time, as selecting the right Board is of paramount importance.

Please remember to vote in the coming weeks.
