Digital Citizenship And Being Aware Of The Internet

Kent McDonald —

Going on the internet brings you to a whole new world.

When you’re on the internet you become a digital citizen.  But, one of the most important things is to be careful.  You could easily get hacked.  All hackers have to do is guess your password and make a new password, so you can never get back on.  Never give your password to others.

Another thing to be aware of is cyber-bullying.  If one of your friends or family members are being cyber-bullied, talk to them and tell them not to take the comments seriously.  Cyber-bullies are people you meet on the internet, they don't know anything about you.

So how can they make a credible and informed comment.

If you come across a scam you should not in any circumstances click on it.  Scammers want to know personal information such as - your email address, what country you live in, your phone number, street name, bank account and your house number.  If you give out any of this information they can steal money from your bank account and make it difficult or impossible for you to go on the internet.  If faced with this situation you should tell a parent or guardian immediately.

In summary, never visit sites you don’t trust, and be internet kind.  Don’t hack or scam, or be a cyber-bully. If you follow these steps, you will be internet awesome.
