The Kereru Team Have Become Poets!
Amy Hurst - June 16, 2022
We have been learning all about the different types of poetry and what makes them unique. So far we have covered these poems; Acrostic which means you use the first letter of each phrase to spell out a word.
A cinquain poem is a five-line poem that follows set rules. The poem is made up of adjectives, nouns and verbs.
Diamante poems are similar to cinquain's but are 8 lines long and shaped like a diamond.
Haiku poems originate from Japan and are three lines following strict syllable rules. My personal favourite is a limerick.
Limericks are witty and follows a specific rhyming pattern.
Lastly, blackout poems. We took some famous pieces of writing and created a poem using the most interesting word from the text and blacked out the rest.
The students have enjoyed getting creative and trying out a bunch of different poems and having some fun with them.
Here is a taste of some of the great writing that has been going on!
