New Zealand Histories Launch
This term we have launched into learning all about the new NZ History Curriculum.
As a taster to get excited and the learning juices flowing on NZ histories, each pārua took part in an immersive learning experience offered through the Canterbury Museum.
Piwakawaka - The Charlotte Jane
Early settlers to Christchurch spent 100 days on board the Charlotte Jane to make possibly the longest and most grueling journey of their life. Why did they risk everything they knew to start afresh in the faraway country of New Zealand?
Pukeko - Whenua Our Land
Whenua Our Land examines what makes Waitaha (Canterbury) unique. Students explored the geographic features of the region we live in. We also investigated how and why people have changed this landscape before looking at what we can do to become kaitiaki to protect it for future generations.
Kererū - Navigating the Pacific
Learners discovered how Māori made deliberate and skillful journeys across Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa (Pacific Ocean) without the use of modern technology available to sailors today.
Kōtuku - Hangarau Māori
Learners discovered how Māori applied their skills and knowledge along with the natural resources from the environment to develop tools and technologies to suit their survival needs and lifestyle in Aotearoa New Zealand.
