Raukawa Camp:
The Raukawa team returned safely from their fun and successful time at El Rancho Camp in Waikanae. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to squeeze in a visit, but from the photos I have seen and the comments that have been made, everyone had an absolute blast! None of this would have been possible without all the extra work that was put in by Kayleigh Peach. Planning for camp begun last year and she has been working trirelessly over the past few weeks making sure that the team were well prepared for camp. I would also like to thank the teachers in Raukawa, Jen Cooze and Joelle Clark for all their extra time and effort before and during camp. Likewise with teachers, camp can't go ahead without the support from the amazing parents who took time off work to be parent help. We really do appreciate this committment from you. A huge thank you to:
Christie Boyd
Pete McGlone
Tracy Hall
Marty Sheldon
Luke Lee
Andrew Thompson
Matt Pervan
Brooke Quinn
Mark Bailey
We would have loved to take all parents who put their name forward, but unfortunately this is not possible. I would like to thank those of you who did offer to attend camp.
Kāhui Rangatahi Kura:
On Wednesday 7 of our Māori students attended a Kahui Rangatahi Rōpu hui. This is a leadership initiative designed to foster young Māori leaders within the Northern Porirua Community.
The Purpose is to provide experiences where Māori students and peersfeel culturally connected to Te Ao Māori. To help prepare and engage young Māori people in becoming leaders of Te Ao Māori in their lives, home, school and community and to be active and positive contributing leaders.
The group consists of approximately 100 students from across the 11 schools that make up the Northern Porirua Kāhui Ako.
The focus of each hui will be on developing leadership skills and promoting Māori culture within their own kura and wider community. One of the great things about this group is that it involves a range of students, from different schools and age groups coming together to work collectively and learn from each other. Students from Pāuatahanui who attended were:
Delylah Owen
Emma Winiata
Izabela Ross
Waimarino Paora
Wolfe Smith
