Peka Peka - Week Ono

Sally Patterson —

A hive of activity was had this week in Peka Peka as we completed many tasks that were unfinished. This means we have finally got some beautiful artwork on the walls! We also want to give a warm welcome to Lynda who will be supporting us with our fine motor and Literacy rotations 4 days a week.

Completion was our main word this week as we showed grit and a strong desire to do our best in our learning. As the ākonga continue to develop an understanding of how to learn they are feeling the genuine satisfaction of achievement as they look at their work with pride.

Our koru art representing our whānau is shining down on us, as we explored what it meant to be a family, and how this may look different for each ākonga (learner)-celebrating diversity.

We have also completed our collages where our ākonga cut out pictures from magazines about things they love, and things that are meaningful to them. They are in the process of taking their first photo for Seesaw and making a voice recording about why they cut out each picture. These explanations are really personal and some are full of charisma! Please comment on your child's Seesaw posts as they love to hear your feedback. We encourage you to attempt to do a voice recording so they can hear your voice!

After learning about everything to do with patterns, in Week 6 in Maths No Problem we are going to learn how to be able to count reliably (with one-to-one correspondence and understanding of cardinality) forwards and backwards.

In Structured Literacy, we continue with our ability groups and rotations where we are focused on building Phonemic awareness, fine motor skills, and extending their ability to concentrate. We are impressed with our ākonga attitude towards learning and we are so grateful to our whānau who are practising the heart words at home with their child. This extra practice makes all the difference in building automaticity when reading and spelling.
