Wāhanga Tuarua: Wiki Tuatahi

Kupu o te Wiki (word of the week): Kai (food)

ALS Value focus: Kaitiaki

Wāhanga tuarua: Nau mai, hoki mai ki te wāhanga tuarua - Welcome back to Term 2 in Rakahuri and Waikuku. This is home to the Year 2 and 3 ākonga. The ALS has mainly composite class teaching, this means that the year levels are mixed together to allow best practice migration.

Staff Changes: The team welcomes Mrs Young to the ALS. Mrs Young will be teaching Mrs A’s classes on a Wenerei. Great to have her on board!

Morning routine: Wenerei is the start of the new term and back to the morning routine. Ākonga are encouraged to remove their hu (shoes), place their pēke kura (school bag) in their cubby and bring their pouaka kia (lunchbox) into the ALS. There are a number of quiet morning activities set out in the ALS for ākonga to complete. If your child has extra energy, they can burn this off outside. It would be great to see all ākonga completing this routine with independence.

Pānui & Tuhituhi: Literacty routines will return on day one of term. To keep with consistency your child (where possible) will retain the same Literacy kaiako. Ākonga will continue with their Science of Writing journey with some children moving onto genre writing. The writing genre for wāhanga tuarua is report writing.

Pāngarau: Maths No Problem will also return on Wenerei. Maths is taught in year levels. Again to keep with consistency your child will retain the same maths teacher. Mrs A and Whaea Amanda will teach the Y2 level and Miss Matthews, Mrs Porritt and Miss Taylor will be teaching the Y3 level.

HākinakinaTwo sporting events to save the date for. The first is Cross Country on Wednesday May 17th (Week 4). As this is very close, the ākonga will start training in Week 1. While the focus is on participation (and fun) the children will be looking at ways on how to be a stronger runner.  The second event is Waiswim in Week 7 and 8. Please ensure you have filled out the Waiswim form sent out by Sports Leader Mrs Loffhagen via Hero. This form will help us to determine your child’s level of swimming to help ensure they are in the correct group.

Navigating the Journey: This starts in week one and will be taught in Year levels. Mrs A and Whaea Amanda will teach the Y2 level and Miss Matthews, Mrs Porritt and Miss Taylor will be teaching the Y3 level. The outline of this topic has been shared by Mrs Robinson, please contact her for further details.

Hot kai: Hot kai is back from Monday to Thursday. Ākonga can bring to kura precooked kai, wrapped in tin foil with their name clearly on it for heating. This is placed in the oven and slowly heated through the day. Please no noodles or food that requires cooking.

Lost property boxes: These are located in the doorway of Rakahuri and Waikuku. We have the below items left from last term, please contact your child's homeroom teacher if they belong to you.

Newsletter Art: This newsletter art has been created by Hawaiki. This is his personal pepeha as an artwork. As you can see he has coloured koru to represent his different whānau members, his maunga (mountain), his awa (river) and where he lives. What a stunning job! It is hanging up in the ALS with the other ākonga’s art who were in this DDL group.

Kura Closed: Please note kura is closed Monday 24rd for a Staff Only Day and Tuesday 25th for ANZAC day.

ANZAC Day: Rakahuri and Waikuku ākonga will be marking ANZAC day with a number of activities in Week 1.

To all the veterans on ANZAC day:

"Thank you for your sacrifice, for what you gave up to provide a brighter future for generations to come

Least we forget"

Term 2 Reminders:

Pōtae: No sun hats needed this term!

Pātara wai: Please ensure your child has a drink bottle at school

Whare pukapuka: Library Day is Friday

Kai: Subway is available on a Wenerei (please order by Turei night) and Sausage Sizzle is available on a Paraire. Please note above with regards to hot kai.

Have a great last few days of holidays!  We are looking forward to seeing you all next week.
