A reminder about how we operate at Alert Level 3

Jared Kelly —

This is just a reminder of the information we shared in last Friday's newsletter.

This information is for whānau who need to send their children to school because they need to go to work level 3. If you are still working from home your child or children should remain at home and continue with home learning.

Due to the directives from the MOE and MOH about how we have to operate, spaces are strictly limited - the more notice you give us the more likely we will be able to accommodate your request.

Contact Whaea Di and include your child's full name, the ALS they are in and all of the days they will be attending school.

**Only those who have received a confirmation email from Whaea Di can attend school** This is because we will only have staff onsite for the specific children we know about.

MASH is not operating at Alert Level 3.

Arrival / Exit at school:

It is important that the 2-metre distancing is adhered to by everyone. The areas will be clearly marked and staff will be there to meet you.

  • Each ALS has a separate entry point that must be used for drop off and picked up.
  • School drop of is between 8.40 and 9am. School pick up is between 2.50 and 3.15.
  • When dropping off, you and your child/ children must stand on the social distance spots. You may stay with your child here until a teacher checks them on the track and trace register. Your name will also be requested or if it is a caregiver. The teacher will then ask the children to enter.
  • Parents/caregivers will not be able to enter the school buildings.
  • If your child is coming to school on their own, they must understand where to go and to wait on the marked spots.
  • When picking up, please again wait on a spot and wait for your child to come to you. Strictly, no entry into the building is permitted.
  • It is essential that you are on time to collect your child. There is no after school programme available at level 3.
  • If it is wet, drop off and pick up will occur at the main entry to the gym. You will be guided by management, who will meet you there at your allocated time.
  • If you miss your drop off time or you are collecting your child early, you will need to ring the office and you will be directed where you need to go.
  • There will be no access to the school site and gates will be locked to ensure no entry during the school day. Should you need access, you will need to contact the office.

School Day:

All learning that takes place at school will be the same as the content sent home for home learning. Your child’s homeroom teacher is still responsible for marking and connecting with your child whether they are on-site or working from home.

  • Students will be in a bubble of no more than 10 students per teacher.
  • Students will have allocated seating.
  • Students must adhere to 1-metre distancing at all times when inside.
  • Students must adhere to 2-metre distancing at all times when outside.
  • Each bubble is allocated its own toilet.
  • Any physical activity can only happen if the social distancing guidelines are met.
  • Playgrounds remain out of bounds, as does shared equipment.
  • Students may bring their own scooter to school.
  • Staff will support students to access the learning that is designed by that days lead teacher. Students will not be receiving a different programme to the home learners.
  • Staggered break times to ensure management of distancing.
  • Siblings are not in the same bubble if they are different year levels. This is to keep bubbles manageable if we have an increase in student numbers.

Behaviour:

The Ministry of Health guidelines are very clear. For this environment to remain safe for all of those who are on-site, social distancing must be adhered to. If students cannot follow these guidelines and compromise the health and safety of others, parents or caregivers will be asked to collect their child. If they are unable to comply with the guidelines they will not be able to attend school. Please speak to your children about the importance of following all instructions given by the staff.

Cleanliness:

  • Regular cleaning will commence daily by our contracted cleaners. They are updated with current cleaning requirements.
  • Hand sanitiser will be available on entry to the learning communities and the toilets.
  • Washing hands is still the best prevention of transmission, so all learning communities and bathrooms also have soap and hot water.
  • Entry and exit doors from the learning community will be allocated to each bubble to minimise the use of door handles.
  • Door handles and surfaces will be regularly wiped down by staff.
  • Students are welcome to bring their own sanitiser if they wish.

Sickness or Injury:

  • If your child is sick, Do Not bring them to school. Even if symptoms are mild this is unacceptable. If staff feel the child is presenting with any symptoms, you will be contacted to come and collect your child.
  • If your child becomes ill during the day we will phone and ask for your child to be collected.
  • If your child is injured during the day, we will follow our usual protocols. If it is minor we’ll manage it and inform you as is normal. If serious, we will follow our system currently in place and make contact with you immediately.

We understand that these are difficult times and respect that we have families who need to head back into the workforce. We are here to work with you. The most important factor in all of this is the health safety of all students and staff. School will not be normal but we’ll aim to make it as positive for the students as we can.
