Welcome to term 3 in the senior school!

Rachel Kelly —

I hope you all had a great holiday and a wonderful long weekend celebrating Matariki. We have a very busy term ahead ending with the Year 7 camp.

A big Pegasus Bay welcome to Jaydon who will join Miss Patterson's class as a new Year 7!

This term we are learning about Planet Earth and Beyond. We will be looking at space exploration, the moon and the solar system. The children will be creating lots of interesting digital presentations with the information they learn.

Technology at Kaiapoi Borough School continues for our year 7s -  every second week (starting next Tuesday).

Maths starts with the year 7s looking at percentages and the year 6s will continue with their work on fractions.

The children will be writing procedures and explanations in literacy time. They will be reading information on space and building on their comprehension strategies during reading. Spelling/the code continues with some children moving groups based on their learning needs from last term.

In Te Reo Måori the focus will be looking at classroom objects.

The Art Show will be an initial focus for our visual arts programme this term.

The North Canterbury Cantamaths competition is in week 3 at Ohoka - you will be notified if your child is part of this, with a permission and transport form as soon as we know the final details.

Term 3 is so busy! - Look out for the following things on the school calendar...

Pizza fundraiser, Winter tournament, School photos, choir rehearsals at Kaiapoi, North Canterbury Cantamaths, Kapa haka festival, ski trip, Pegasus Bay Art Show, and parent interviews.

Year 7 camp 20th - 22nd September

A huge thank you to all of the parents who volunteered to stay over night on our camp to Hanmer Springs. We had a huge response and unfortunately we can't take you all. If you have received an email indicating we need you as an overnight helper could you please fill out the police vetting form this week. This will be sent home on Monday.

Next week we will be putting out a transport form for parents to indicate if you can provide transport to and from Hamner camp.

Please fill in the parent consent form for camp if you haven't already. Please get in touch ASAP if your child is not attending the year 7 camp this year as this makes a difference to organisation, accomodation, transport and overall costs.
