Ngā Tai o Mahaanui and Taerutu

Simon Crawford —

Our Adventurer picnic table artwork is now complete and joins the three others our ākonga (students) have worked hard on. We are hoping to have the final two values and learner dispositions tables complete by the end of the term.

Congratulations: Ezra has qualified for the Canterbury Primary Schools Cross Country Championship.

Welcome: While it's not uncommon to have new ākonga join our awesome learning space, I can seldom say that we have 25 arriving all at once.

After our successful transition morning today, we warmly welcome; Gibson, Bradley, Alex, Archie, Isla, Freya D, Lottie, Ava, Asher, Valentino, Robyn, Chloe, Flynn, Jamie, Rory, Ocean, Caven, Archer, Elspeth, Freya N, George, Morgan, Paislee, Adalyn and Miller to Taerutu, starting on Tūrei (Tuesday).

Mrs Young (Leanne) will be the main homeroom kaiako for these awesome learners, with Mrs Robinson (Rachel) taking the reins each Paraire (Friday).

ALS Redesign: With the rapid growth in our learning space, we have had to make a few changes with our set up. From Tūrei morning, MC's homeroom will join with Mrs Young's homeroom in Taerutu, with Mrs L's and Mr P's homerooms continuing to start the day off in Ngā Tai o Mahaanui.

Year 3/4 Girls Self Defence: Our girls have the fantastic opportunity to learn some extremely valuable life skills over the next two weeks. On Tāiti (Thursday), we have Anna from Kia Haumaru - Personal Safety Education, here to take our girls through a two day self defence course.

Year 3 Swimming: Ākonga start swimming on Tūrei!

Please bring the following; Swimming bag - this needs to be big enough to hold your child's uniform while they are swimming. Fabric shopping bags are a good size for everything! Togs, Towel and Goggles.

As many clothing items do go missing please ensure that all items are named!

Parents are welcome to come and watch their child swim but only parents who have been police checked are able to help in the changing rooms. Please email Leanne with regards to timings.

Wiki Tuawhitu (week seven): Ākonga this week start brand new MNP topics, with the Year 5's diving into Fractions, whilst both the Year 3's and 4's learn about Mass.

In writing, ākonga are publishing their Waipuna-ā-rangi poems, and completing an end of genre assessment, before wrapping their living world studies (beach, wetlands or rainforest) and moving onto our new learning around our 2nd Matariki focus star of Pōhutukawa.

It's going to be a very busy week!

Quick reminders:

King's Birthday: Kura is closed on Mane (Monday), for the King's Birthday public holiday.

Hot kai: Children can bring food wrapped in tinfoil with their name clearly on it for lunch. This is Monday - Thursday only please.

Fleece jerseys: Please check that these are named, so that we can return these to your ākonga when they misplace them.

Ngā mihi nui
