Week 6 in the Senior School
We have another busy week ahead in the senior school!
Year 6 - Camp has finally arrived! Final reminders...
If the year 6 students can please meet in Manga Kawari on Monday morning between 8.30 - 9am. Sonya and Dan will be doing the roll when the bell rings. They will then brief the children on the day and go over student expectations.
Please remember if your child has medication to have this in a glad bag that is clearly named. A teacher will sign this in in the morning.
There will be boxes to hand in your fruit, muesli bars or baking just inside Manga Kawari.
Transport & overnight parents - I have sent an email regarding briefing times and the structure for Monday. Rachel Kelly will be meeting you all at 9am in Manga Kawari break out space. Here Rachel will give you the transport plan and map for the day. If you are available to stay and help put up tents and stretchers that would be amazing!
We will leave school at 9.30am to aim to get to Orton Bradley Park for 10.45am for morning tea there. The first activity of cooperative games will start shortly after this! Cooperative games and team building takes up day one, days 2 and 3 involve a rotation of a hike, water activities (rafting and kayaking), and high ropes - run by Adventure Specialists.
Please remember your child needs a packed lunch and drink bottle for day one. They will use their backpack on the hike also. If you have lost the gear list there is a digital one on HERO.
Don't forget to remind your child to pack warm clothes for bedtime!!
Name everything - including home- baking containers and sleeping bag covers (a common lost item).
Lastly - Fingers crossed for sunshine!!!
Year 7s - You will be working with Todd Henderson and Shelagh Taylor on Monday and Wednesday in Maungatere. On Tuesday you will be at the tech centre at Kaiapoi Borough School.
Any year 6s not going on camp will be working with the year 7s. On the Tuesday you will go with Ms Taylor to the Year 8s for the day.
Digi Awards
A huge thank you to the parents who attended the Grow Waitaha Canterbury Digi Awards last Thursday night. They received 144 entries across different schools. Our senior students got 3 entries in the finals.
The Taku Akomanga entry won! The other two entries got second in their categories. This was an amazing result for Maungatere and Manga Kawari!
A big shout out to our junior teams that also won in their categories! - What an amazing digital school we are.
Lego League
I would like to acknowledge the students who are competing in the South Island Lego League competition at Breens Intermediate today. From our ALS - Eshan, Joe, Max B, Lars, Kaylene, Susie, Sophia & Gemma. They have worked through their lunch breaks, in the holidays and all day this week on their sustainable energy projects and on very complex robot coding. Mrs A and I are so proud of you all! Thank you to all the parents who have helped with transport.
