Welcome to 2022!
Only 4 sleeps to go...
Welcome to Peka peka, our New Entrant / Year 1 ACT-ive Learning space here at Pegasus Bay School.
We have an awesome teaching team for 2022 and are eagerly preparing the classroom ready for your arrival on Tuesday next week. Whaea Sally and Whaea Penny continue to reside in Peka peka-almost like a piece of old furniture! We warmly welcome the experienced and passionate Whaea Juanita who is returning after teaching in the Rakahuri space in 2021 (Year 1 and 2), and Miss Paterson who is a new graduate, who is bringing so many fresh ideas to our team! Triana is our teacher assistant in our space, who brings with her a deep desire to ensure all tamariki are given the same opportunities for learning. I am excited to be leading a team of passionate, dedicated, and inspirational kaiako for 2022! We are planning on sending a video to you all so you can learn a little bit about us, and to see your awesome ACT-ive learning space set up ready for you!
Hopefully you have ordered or brought your stationery for the year. If not, the stationery list is on our website under the Parent Information tab, then click on school stationery. Please order from the Peka peka Year 0/Year 1 column only.
We hope you have made memories as you went on adventures, and relaxed with your whānau and friends over the Christmas break. If you have documented these we would love to see them! You can send these into your homeroom kaiako so your tamaiti can share these with us next week!

Day 1 is on Tuesday the 1st of February, and your child will come into Peka peka between 8.30 am-8.55 am. When you arrive on Tuesday it is encouraged that whānau say goodbye at the gate, with strictly no whānau allowed inside the ACT-ive learning space.
Obviously, we have lots of new tamariki who are starting school and we want this to be as memorable and as supported as possible. For this reason, our awesome management team is letting us use the gate outside our Playground area, by the Drop off zone on Solander road. A kaiako will be there to meet you and support you with this transition.
You can enter in the mornings and spend some time with your tamaiti in our amazing Peka peka playground before the bell rings. You will have to be masked and sign in on the Covid Tracer App which is on the gate, but please leave when you feel your child is settled-ideally before the bell rings. This gate is only to be used during the mornings to help settle the tamariki. In the afternoons we will walk the tamariki down to the Whakatipu Street gate in homerooms unless they are on the bus.
Week 1 brings a time for connection and relationship building. We will be designing learning around who we are and where we come from, so we can celebrate who we are as individuals. This is something that we really believe here in Peka peka as we want the tamariki to feel comfortable to be themselves and to contribute their big ideas with confidence! We will be introducing our Story and our Whakatauki, understanding what we believe this to mean through some awesome Artwork.
Please enjoy the final days of your holidays and we are so looking forward to meeting and getting to know the tamariki and you, their whānau!
Ngā mihi nui,
Penny, Juanita, Sophia, Triana, and Sally
