Wiki 8 in Pekapeka

Ella Latham —

Kia ora e te whanau, Hard to believe there are only 2 weeks of school left until the school holidays!

We have had another fun-filled week in Pekapeka. We learnt about time and have started to explore the days of the week, months, and when our birthdays are. We focused on the letter Cc in structured literacy which was c-c-c-cool! We learnt all about how Abel Tasman discovered Aotearoa (check out some of our art in our space!) and completed an obstacle course with support from our year 8 buddies. We now are into our second rotation with our year 8 buddies and the kaiako.

Important notices:

Year 0-1 – At Kaiapoi Aquatic Centre @12.30-2.30pm

Week 4 – Monday 15th May, Tuesday 16th May, Thursday 18th May, Friday 19th May

Week 5 – Monday 22nd May, Tuesday 23rd May, Wednesday 24th May, Thursday 25th May, Friday 26th May

Please email Penny Galway pennygalway@pegasusbay.school.nz. We do ask that no toddlers or other children come with you so you can focus on the tamaiti swimming. You will also be required to fill out a police vetting form.

  • Next week Friday (31st) is prize giving! This is a special time when we celebrate the amazing achievements of some of our ākonga. If your ākonga is getting an award you will receive an email from one of the kaiako. We ask that you don't tell them as it is always very exciting for them on the day to be awarded this.

  • On the last morning of the term, we will be hosting a Pekapeka end-of-term morning tea/ celebration where we will share the new waiata we have learnt and our learning from inquiry. Please bring a plate to share (a bread and butter plate size) and we will serve tea and coffee. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet and greet new whānau and build relationships between the children.

Next week:

MNP: We will be exploring representations of 1-5, and learning about the 1 more than, 1 less than relationship between consecutive whole numbers.

Structured Literacy: We are learning about the vowel 'Ii'. Have a korero with your ākonga about this letter and what words have Ii in it!

Inquiry: We will be learning about the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, the arrival of the Europeans and why we have the holiday of Waitangi day.

Reminders:

  • 2:45 pm pick-ups on Fridays

  • Drink bottles each day

  • Pōtae (hat) are compulsory in Term 1 and 2.

  • Please have shoes that your ākonga can put on independently.

  • Our library day is now Friday

  • We use poetry books on Friday, they go home over the weekend for you to read with your ākonga but need to be returned on Monday.
